Statement of Intent:

In approximately 500 words, discuss your reasons for pursuing undergraduate study in the visual arts. Feel free to include any information about yourself, as well as your goals and interests that may not be immediately apparent from the review of your transcripts or portfolio.

Official High School Transcript(s) (in sealed and signed envelope from institution)

In order to be considered official, transcripts must be mailed to SVA in an unopened envelope stamped and sealed by the issuing institution or secure electronic transcripts from Parchment Exchange(Naviance), National Student Clearinghouse and Scrip-Safe.

Applicants who have completed a GED must submit official transcripts if they have attended high school, in addition to their official GED score report.

Test Score(s): SAT – ACT – GED

Official SAT or ACT test scores should be sent to SVA by the testing agency or your high school.

Copies of course descriptions of classes taken at other colleges can be helpful to the transfer review process.

Portfolio:

15-20 images submitted via Slideroom or a Film Reel/2-Part Film Essay

The portfolio should contain samples of your strongest artwork, and should be submitted in accordance with the criteria detailed in the portfolio guidelines. All transfer applicants seeking credit in studio art classes must submit a digital portfolio on Slideroom or CD/USB to aid in the evaluation of transfer placement. Film and Video applicants can either submit a two-part essay by mail or email or a film reel on Slideroom to satisfy the portfolio requirement.

For Internation Students: 

  • Official Foreign Transcript Evaluation or Translation (required for all institutions outside the U.S.)
  • Proof of English Proficiency (required for all applicants whose primary language is not English)
  • Copy of Permanent Resident Card (required for U.S. Permanent Residents only)
  • Declaration of Finances Form (for applicants desiring student visa only)
  • Verification of Finance/ Bank Letter (for applicants desiring student visa only)
  • Copy of Current I-20/ visa paperwork

  • The Office of Admissions will notify applicants by e-mail if their file is missing any required materials and again when their file is complete for review. These notifications are sent to the e-mail address on file. When requested, SVA will make every effort to provide additional application status updates in a timely manner. However, the fastest way for applicants to verify the College’s receipt of their application materials is to submit them via a trackable method, such as Certified Mail, Prioriry Mail, UPS, etc.

Application completion deadline for early action for Fall 2017; materials must be postmarked by this date in order to be considered for early action.

Wednesday, February 12017
Admissions completion deadline for all Fall 2017 incoming freshmen applicants for the Silas H. Rhodes Scholarship program; all application materials must be postmarked by this date in order to be considered for scholarship. There is no scholarship application. Only scholarship recipients are notified.

Deadline to submit Honors Program application (first-time freshmen only)

Wednesday, March 1, 2017
